When creating this list of work from home jobs for single moms, I had to take into consideration a lot of different factors that wouldn’t apply to the typical childless person or even a married mother who had a partner’s help. The factors I considered were:

  • How flexible is the job?
  • Is the pay enough for a single mother?
  • Does it require a lot of education or experience?

I tried to include only flexible work at home jobs for moms that paid enough for a single income, but education and experience requirements do vary. I can do a separate article on remote jobs for single moms with no qualifications. If that’s something you would be interested in, leave me a comment and let me know!

I’m considering a job as something where you’re trading your time for money. So, although with some of the jobs listed you would technically be considered freelance, or an independent contractor, at the end of the day, your pay is based on the amount of time that you worked.

They’re unlike running a business where you could work one hour and make nothing, or work one hour and make thousands of dollars. If you would like to do something with even more flexibility and an unlimited earning potential, here’s a list of business ideas for single moms.

Here are some of the best websites to find work from home jobs for moms:

This post is all about legitimate single mom jobs from home that are flexible and pay well.

4. Work From Home as a Nanny

I truly do feel that having an in-home daycare or being a nanny is the PERFECT job for a stay at home mom with young kids…if you have the patience for it. You get to be totally present with your kid all day while making money.

It’s also a great source of interaction for kids that don’t go to school yet. You can choose to either watch the kids at your home and have your own in-home daycare or bring your kids along to your nannying job (with the permission of the other family of course!)

The pay varies based on how many kids you’re watching and the area you live in, but it seems like in most major cities the average is around $15 per hour.

6. Work From Home as a Medical Coder

To put in somewhat simple terms, a medical coder reviews medical records then assigns codes using a set of classification systems.

I want to preface by saying, this is a VERY difficult remote job to get into unless you already have prior experience with certification. If you’re new to the field, you may have to find a non-remote job to start then work your way to an at-home position.

BUT you can make great money in the field. Remote medical coders are making $56,380 per year on average.

If you’re interested in getting into medical coding, most community colleges offer short-term certificates for affordable prices and as a single mom, you likely qualify for many grants to help you out even further.

Please note – I DO NOT recommend Andrews School. I attended and had a TERRIBLE experience which resulted in me losing all of my savings and receiving nothing in return. They have no sympathy towards single mothers or those paying them their hard-earned last dollar, so I cannot in good conscience watch my other single mamas out there get burned.

As a remote customer service representative, you’ll be representing a company and handling customer’s issues with speed, compassion, and attention. There are a plethora of jobs available and they’re a great option for moms with no qualifications.

Amazon actually hires a lot of virtual customer service reps. I’ve noticed that they do large hiring rounds every few months, so be on the lookout for that. The application and hiring process is easy and painless. I’ve been hired for the job before and I had very little prior experience.

If you’re a single mom with young kids who need constant attention, then I would recommend seeking out a chat or email customer service job rather than one where you’ll be speaking with customers over the phone.

The downside to customer service is that the pay isn’t great. On average, remote customer service agents are making $14.31, but I’ve seen many companies paying much less.

Where to Find Online Transcription Jobs:

Unfortunately, a lot of the large transcription companies listed above pay pennies. It’s great for a side income, but if you’re looking to make a full-time career out of transcription, I highly recommend this course.
